Survival
- Food is important. Make sure to get for food early so you don’t starve.
- Hungry? Limit your activity. Activities like jumping, digging and placing blocks make you hungry.
- Good early food sources are fruit, clams and potatoes
- Animal meat gives more hunger points, but some animals will fight back
- If you find potatoes, carrots or asparagus, don’t eat them all at once. Keep some leftovers for later.
- Use a bed to set your respawn point. Do it as early as possible, so even if you die, not all is lost.
General advice
- Wood is an important crafting item for many recipes. To get your first wood, start punching tree trunks
- Many items come with useful tooltips when you hover them in the inventory. If you don’t understand what an item does, read its tooltip carefully
- Most items can be placed. This is not just useful as decoration but may also be used as a primitive means of storage.
Farming
- To start farming, just put the seeds or item on ground near water and watch it grow
- Experiment with different grounds. Many plants will grow differently depending on the ground
- Fertilizer is hard to get, but quite powerful, it can enhance plant growth quite significanly
- Each plant grows differently when fertilized. Experiment!
Animals
- Each animal species has a different taste for food. Try to figure out what it is
- Animals will follow you if you hold something that interests them
- Breeding: Feed two adult animals until hearts appear and bring them close together. A baby will spawn soon
Exploration
- Explore the world! Many items are unique to certain biomes only
- If you head down for the caves, bring pickaxes, torches and plenty of food
- Don’t dig straight down! If you’re unlucky, you might fall straight into a giant cave and fall to your doom
- Exploration gets a lot easier if you bring a map
Villages
- Talk to villagers often. Many villagers give you useful hints and information.
- Talk to villagers while holding an item in hand. They may tell you something useful about it
